Hello Guys, I shall start by welcoming a few new members: (one or two may possibly not be that new anymore!) Simon H, David M and Oliver E and also a junior member – William B, son of none other than Cain, welcome to the club guys, we hope that you enjoy it.
The clubs Spectrum transmitter can be used by anybody who would like to set up a buddy system or to test a new model out, if you’re interested in doing this then please contact Richard.
Rex has asked me to let everybody know that he has a huge pile of RC model world magazines, if anybody is interested in taking them off his hands please give him a shout.
I fully appreciate guys that this is incredibly short notice and for that I apologise, however this coming Sunday is the Sutton Benger produce show, and it would be great if you are free and could pop along with a model to display, I believe we will be doing a ‘first person view’ demonstration and a turbine ‘run up’ the show starts at 2pm.
Following on from what we thought may be an appalling day on the weather front we have re arranged our scale day to next Saturday the 22nd August starting from 12pm onwards, fingers crossed the weather is better this time!
I would like to thank Keith for organising Charlton Park, I appreciate that it was two months ago but it really was a great weekend, the weather was superb, breezy but sunny and dry which resulted in perfect conditions for sun burnt arms (turns out sun cream exists for a reason) there was a wonderful selection of vintage and scale models on show and lots of friendly modellers, I somehow managed to end up flying someone else’s junior 60 merely because I asked a few questions about the construction of it! I have a few pictures:
The first picture needs no introduction, except to say that the guy flew it superbly, if you didn’t know that it was a model you would think it was real.
The second picture is an exact replica of a Bentley Rotary engine, which sounded amazing and is obviously mind blowing in terms of detail, the chap who built it told me that he machined all of the parts himself! It even spits out huge amounts of oil as per the full size.
Picture number three is of the ‘Dawn patrol display team’ who did a cracking display. I tried to get a picture of them flying but the models look surprisingly small in the air and my camera phone is not great!
And the last picture is of course our very own Richard and Arthur, Richard won the first prize for best vintage and Keith came second!
Queens Field and Hullavington
If you crash your model guys, please pick up all the bits! Rex picked up some stuff from the middle of the runway the other week and crikey did he moan about it, so for my sake if nothing else please take your broken fibreglass and balsa home with you!
I would like to bring to your attention an updated rule regarding engine running at Hullavington, the one for Queens stays the same however: 8.01. Prolonged engine running on the ground at Queens Field is not permitted, that includes tank draining! 8.02. Prolonged engine running may be permitted at Hullavington, additional precautions and consideration for others must be observed. Prolonged running must be performed a minimum distance of 60 metres from the pits and active flying areas.
I recently went to an airshow at the Shuttleworth collection at old warden in Bedfordshire, wow what a place! Lots of old oily things and aeroplanes! The Vulcan called in and did an absolutely superb display, the pilot threw that beast around like she was a fighter. I left with my ears ringing – and I didn’t mind a jot. Please excuse the poor picture quality.
I shall leave you with a couple of pictures of Dave with his new toy the ‘Bandit’, the first was taken before the maiden flight and the second just after, notice how the second smile looks like a much happier one?!
Take care guys,
Happy Landings for now, Ed
