Hello, hello! I do hope that you are all ticking along nicely chaps. Firstly a little reminder about our upcoming dates for the year, the closest being Charlton Park which is now only three weeks away. It starts at 10am and promises to be a brilliant weekend so do come along if you can make it.
- Charlton Park 6th and 7th June - NWMAC scale and vintage day Saturday 20th June - Combat day Saturday 26th September
Queens Field and Hullavington
Please do not leave the key for the portaloo hanging in the door! Please put it back in the shed!
Whilst at Queens please remember to fly as far over to the right as possible in order to keep the noise away from the village.
I have received a couple of reports now of dog walkers walking up the runway! The danger to us is obvious however to the general public our models probably just look like little toys. Regardless of whether people should or should not be using the field as a right of way is neither here nor there. We all know just how lucky we are to be able to use such a wonderful site and therefore as a club we must do everything in our power to make sure we keep hold of it, so when we see ramblers, dog walkers or whoever remember to smile and be polite! If someone is walking up the runway please ask them politely not to and explain why. I know it’s a really obvious thing to point out but we are the face of the club and you just never know who it might be that is walking past, the more friends in the village we have the better!
If you are intending to or already do fly at Hullavington using First Person View or ‘FPV’ as its more commonly known, then please be aware that you must still have a spotter on the flight line just as you would normally.
I suspect that most of us by now are already using 2.4 radio equipment, however there will still be 35 MHz in use. We would like to discourage the use of 35 MHz at Hullavington with a possible ban on its use at the site from 2016 onwards following a discussion at the AGM at the end of this year. If however you do continue to use 35 MHz then the peg board provided must be used.
Safety Bob has asked me to bring your attention to a section in the BMFA Handbook on replacing Transmitter Ni-Cd/Ni-Mh batteries with Li-Pos, page 24 section e). Whilst reading it I ended up reading the next couple of pages (it’s wrong to admit that I actually found them really interesting isn’t it?!) and I never knew that Ni-Mh batteries can self discharge up to 40% of their capacity each month, All those wasted spare batteries I have sat on a shelf!
Happy Landings for now, Ed
PS:
I have some jolly nice news that Bob Jones has passed his Heli ‘A’ test, well done Bob, here is a picture of him smiling about it! Very unusual that because we all know how grumpy he is :-)
For Sale etc If anybody has anything for sale they would like popped in the newsletter please do let me know, plus Steve has added a new ‘for sale, exchange and wanted’ section to the website which is available to use.
