Hello guys! You thought that I’d forgotten about doing newsletters hadn’t you?! I do apologise. One of my new year’s resolutions is to actually write more newsletters, half way through February is not too bad a start right? My other resolutions include, amongst other things - to drink a little less and win the lottery, I should probably mention at this point that I’m poor at keeping New Year’s resolutions!
Where to start?! Well I guess firstly, Happy New Year everybody; I hope that you all had a good Christmas break six weeks ago now . . .
Thank you to everybody who attended the AGM back in November, it’s always good to see everyone during the winter months and have some good debates! As you will have no doubt noticed our logo has changed and after much hard work from Richard Preston we are now able to buy clothing with the logo embroidered upon it which those who came to the AGM will have seen examples ably modelled by us slim and youthful committee members! The new club logo features the club name and a modern stylish ‘loop’ type swirl that finishes it off very well. These garments come in an extensive range which can be purchased from “Let’s Face It” which is located at the top of New Road next to the roundabout in Chippenham. Dave, the owner has a vast catalogue of garment options and designs to suit everyone and you can either go into his shop and browse the catalogue options or do the same online at www.lets-faceit.eu Exact prices cannot be given here but as a general guide the committee members chose samples of the following which should satisfy most members needs.
Standard Sweatshirt (cat no. J262M) £20 Standard Polo shirt (cat no. SS204) £15 Fleece, no sleeves (cat no. 8720M) £30 Sweatshirt Royal (cat no. MD02M) £30
All of the above garments plus others of your choice can be ordered in a variety of colours and sizes and feature the club logo on the left breast. To order any of the above, just pop in to see Dave and mention that you are a member of the club as he has the special software for the embroidery machine. Ideally, he would prefer orders of at least three garments at a time to make it worthwhile setting up the machine so you could either go in with someone else to make up numbers (or order three yourself if you wish) but if you speak to him very nicely, he may be able to fit your order in when he does this sort of job for someone else. If you would like anymore details please contact Richard.
Queens Field and Hullavington
Couple of little reminders for Queens; please remember to continue putting your peg on the board if you are still operating 35 MHz radio equipment. Also please ensure the shed is opened (it contains the fire extinguisher) before flying and then locked again afterwards, I know the door is temperamental!
We have obtained a pile of scalpings which will be put down to improve the current state of the track, in the mean time please try (where possible) to avoid driving through the worse of the puddles!
Unfortunately our time as a club at Hullavington will soon be drawing to a close on the 1st April, from that date onwards we will no longer be able to fly on the site as MoD are about to sell off the airfield and all activities on the airfield have to cease from that date.
Obviously this is a huge disappointment for all of us but not necessarily a huge surprise as rumours have circulated for some time, however we are looking for alternative sites and there are a couple of ‘irons in the fire’ so to speak, however these are in very early stages and it wouldn’t be wise to discuss them at this stage.
If anyone is aware or knows of a site that could be used as a replacement please get in touch with the committee.
The Hullavington SSO has very kindly offered to act as our referee in an attempt to help us obtain another site, so obviously in the meantime it is in our best interest to be super good boys and on our best behavior!
Follow the rules and continue with the good practice that we as a club are known for, I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and one way or another will come good.
But just quick reminders about guests, none at Hullavington, if you want to take a guest to Queens please ensure you have it OK’d by a committee member before you invite them.
Safety
Bob has asked me to bring your attention to the Chacksfield chat section in BMFA news from December last year, especially the 2.4 GHz installation which highlights metal spinners and carbon props potentially interfering with the receiver signal. It does indeed make for an interesting read.
2016 Events
After last year’s roaring success at Charlton Park (what an afternoon it was!) Keith has very kindly begun organising this year’s event. Also we have arranged dates plus reserve dates for another scale and vintage day and combat day.
Charlton Park: 11th and 12th June
Scale and Vintage Day: Saturday 30th July (Reserve date: Saturday 6th August)
Combat/Bring&Buy Day: Saturday 3rd September (Reserve Date: Saturday 10th September)
Happy Landings for now, Ed
For Sale etc If anybody has anything for sale they would like popped in the newsletter please do let me know, plus Steve has added a new ‘for sale, exchange and wanted’ section to the website which is available to use.
