NEWS, June 2014 Hello guys! It would appear gentlemen that I have been somewhat tardy in my duties and completely forgotten to mention our annual vintage and scale day at Queens field this coming Saturday, oops! Really sorry about that, I would say don’t shoot the messenger but it’s probably fair that you do on this occasion ! However, if you have not already made plans for Saturday afternoon from 12 noon onwards please come along for some fun with any scale or oldie worldly model you may have. The weather is supposed to be good and we all now know how good Keith is at this sort of event organising, proven by the success of Charlton Park! There will be various competitions and prize giving as previous years.
Richard Preston has asked me to announce that David Rivers passed his ‘A’ with flying colours (no pun intended!) on 15th of May - congratulations David. Also Richard is the custodian of the club trainer which is currently set up and flying very well indeed, if anyone is interested in using it please contact Richard.
At the last committee meeting it was suggested by Bob and Richard that at the end of the flying season or maybe into winter the club could have a social get together including wives and partners etc, with money behind the bar from the club funds, what are people’s opinions? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let us know!
Carlton Park Event After a two year lapse, Charlton Park was revived, the David Prosser Trophy tracked down, Lord Suffolk agreed to host and we were off! The weather threatened torrential rain and storms but we pressed on and were rewarded with two good flying days, though perhaps a little blustery, which just added to the excitement. The first day saw a steady trickle of flyers from Wales, Cirencester, and surrounding areas as well as all the locals and during the day the numbers swelled to a record turnout. We flew well into the evening and in the fading light, Roy P took to the runway with a Gemini covered in multicoloured LED lights to round off day one in a splendid fashion. Day two was even busier and the sky was full and three members of the Dawn Patrol were on site. Pat C came along with his huge and rather special Reliant Stinson, which eventually took the grand prize of best Scale. Runner up was Chris E with a lovely D H Beaver. The vintage class winner was Rob with a superb Super Scorpion and runner up who flew away with the prize for his Slicker was Tony F. We also had a fine raffle with lots of prizes, from wee teddies to an RC plane and of course the usual plane fuel and people fuel...Booze hic! All in all we had a great flying event and a really lovely family atmosphere which we will be delighted to repeat next year. Dates for the diary will be in the next newsletter. Many thanks to all those who helped make it possible; your support was happily received and helps make the decision to go ahead next year very easy. Keith Photographs are in the Gallery.
For Sale etc If anybody has anything for sale they would like popped in the newsletter please do let me know, plus Steve has added a new ‘for sale, exchange and wanted’ section to the website which is available to use.
