NEWS, October 2013 Hello guys, I hope you are all well, it’s been a while since I last wrote, I remember the sunshine beaming through the window, now it’s the autumn wind and lashing rain, oh dear! The committee would like to welcome along Michael Davis to the club bringing our numbers up to a healthy 47 members plus a junior member. 13 of our members are gas turbine flyers and 3 members are in gas turbine training.
Have you noticed if you go on ‘You Tube’ sometimes you can end up going from one ridiculous video to the next until before you know it you have wasted two hours of your life?! Well it was during one of those pointless wastes of time that I stumbled across two documentaries that actually proved both enjoyable and quite informative. The 1st is a 7 part documentary aired in 1981 which followed a group of young men training to be RAF fighter pilots, I watched in amazement at just how intense the training was (and presumably still is?). Does anyone remember it being on TV back then? The 2nd is another ‘vintage’ documentary, this time all things Spitfire, however what I found really good about this one compared with more recent Spitfire documentaries is that it does not digress into the Battle of Britain but keeps on topic about the aircraft. Also there are some fascinating interviews with Douglas Bader and Bob Tuck plus lots of the engineers who worked and designed with R J Mitchell. I learnt a lot of information about some subjects that I thought I knew inside out.
Failsafe Safety Bob J has asked me to pop this note in the newsletter regarding failsafes:
Different Tx and Rx will have separate ways of setting up the failsafe. Please read your instruction manual.
The point I want to make is this. After binding your Tx and Rx together and setting up your controls, its travel and reversing etc. check you have set up your failsafe correctly. The reason I say this, is with the Spektrum transmitter and receiver, when you initially bind the two the Rx will remember where the position of the switches and controls were on loss of signal. If you subsequently reversed the throttle setting and do not rebind to reset the system the throttle servo will go to full open on loss of signal, because that is where it was when you initially bound the system.
So please check your failsafe after setting up your system.
Also, in your BMFA News October edition, page 4, Chacksfield Chat Section - "Insurance, crashes, deliberate ditching and planning ahead" plus "Electric Model Safety" is worth looking at.
2013 AGM Yep that’s right chaps, it’s that time again, it is quite incredible just how quick it comes around isn’t it?! This year’s AGM will be held at the same venue as last years, Sutton Benger Village Hall on Tuesday, 26th of November at 7.30pm for a prompt 8.00pm start please. I know we always say it but please do attend if you can make it. The AGM is our opportunity to have a say and vote on the important things that always come up. Plus if that does not entice you enough then surly a good natter will! If you could have a little think between now and then about any club matters that you feel are important or perhaps you’d like to stand for a position on the committee. Dave will send out an email two weeks prior to the meeting asking for anything you would like to add to the agenda.
Well that’s all for now guys, happy flying if I don’t see you before the 26th
For Sale etc If anybody has anything for sale they would like popped in the newsletter please do let me know, plus Steve has added a new ‘for sale, exchange and wanted’ section to the website which is available to use.
