Hello, hello, hello! How are we all then? I have a few pictures from last month’s Scale day to share with you all, it was very enjoyable day indeed and the weather played ball as well which was nice,
We had two categories: Best Scale and Best vintage, Alan S took best scale with Keith S snatching 2nd place whilst Arthur came 1st followed by Richard for vintage. 1st prizes received a £25 model maniac’s gift card and 2nd got £15.Now at this point I should be telling you which models the guys won with but I cant because I've forgotten and I didn’t write that down either because I’m silly. However, what I have rather craftily done is take some pictures so, the 1st person to name the models wins. Quite what you would win is a mystery but that’s the fun I guess isn’t it?! Big thanks again to Keith for organising this event. We went up to Duxford again (apparently there are other museums in the country Sarah likes to believe!) the other week for ‘Spitfires, Merlins and Motors’. Which as the title suggests was an event that included spitfires, cars and unsurprisingly Merlin engines! It was very good indeed and I highly recommend it because it wasn’t as busy as a full blown airshow day can be at Duxford, yet there were four very good air displays, lots of lovely old cars and a Griffon and Merlin engine being run up on the ground which was noisy! I was a very happy boy as well because I got to sit in a real, proper, full size, airworthy Spitfire - part one of my child hood fantasy complete! The thing that struck me the most about it was just how tiny it felt inside, I’m not overly sure I’d have fancied having to bail out of it in a hurry, hats off to those brave young men. Now I need to convince someone to lend me a Spit so I can fly it then I will be really happy, I’m sure I can manage it, Richard’s had me flying one on his flight sim and it all seems very simple . . . ! Queens Field So I went flying the other Sunday, not the 1st to arrive but the last one to leave and so therefore to lock the gate, except that I couldn’t because the padlock was not there . . . A quick phone call to Rex only to find out that he’d stolen it to use for his shed!!! Obviously he didn’t really, what actually happened was that he’d walked past, saw that the padlock was hanging unlocked and took it to give the person who’d unlocked the gate a little fright except that instead he gave me a blumin fright. Please could you ensure that you snap the padlock shut after opening the gate – thank you!
David H has left the Committee and the Queens Field Groundsman role, if you have any queries about Queens Field maintenance please contact one of the Committee members.
Sutton Benger Produce & Craft Show We have once again been invited to provide a static display at this year’s show, obviously this is a great ‘community’ opportunity for our club. If you can spare a Sunday afternoon to support the club it would be great to gather as many models together as possibly. The show is on Sunday 17th August at the Sutton Benger Recreation Ground & Village Hall, starting at 2pm so if you arrive ½ an hour or so beforehand would be ideal, please ring Rex with any questions you may have, thank you!
For Sale etc If anybody has anything for sale they would like popped in the newsletter please do let me know, plus Steve has added a new ‘for sale, exchange and wanted’ section to the website which is available to use.
